दक्षिण भारत के तटीय इलाकों में चक्रवात ‘मोंथा’ का खतरा तेजी से बढ़ता जा रहा है। भारतीय मौसम विभाग (IMD) के अनुसार, बंगाल की खाड़ी के दक्षिण-पूर्व में बना गहरा दबाव अब चक्रवात में बदल चुका है और 28 अक्टूबर तक इसके एक गंभीर चक्रवाती तूफान का रूप लेने की आशंका है। यह आंध्र प्रदेश के मछलीपट्टनम और कलिंगपट्टनम के बीच तट से टकरा सकता है। मौसम विभाग ने चेतावनी जारी करते हुए कहा है कि तूफान के चलते ओडिशा और आंध्र प्रदेश में भारी बारिश और तेज हवाएं चलने की संभावना है। इसके प्रभाव से लगभग 15 जिलों में असर देखने को मिलेगा, जिनमें आठ जिलों में अत्यधिक बारिश और तेज हवाओं का खतरा अधिक रहेगा। इस तूफान के दौरान हवा की गति 100 किलोमीटर प्रति घंटा तक पहुंच सकती है। मोंथा का असर तेलंगाना, छत्तीसगढ़ और तमिलनाडु तक भी देखने को मिल सकता है, जहां 27 से 30 अक्टूबर तक भारी बारिश की संभावना जताई गई है। प्रशासन ने तटीय इलाकों में अलर्ट जारी कर दिया है और मछुआरों को समुद्र में न जाने की सलाह दी गई है। वहीं स्कूलों को भी सुरक्षा के मद्देनजर बंद रखा गया है।
